Transportation

>Long Beach keeps you connected with excellent transportation options. Whether you want to travel by light rail or by bus, water taxi, or bike, you won't need to go far to catch a ride. Long Beach is part of the Metro light rail system, with the Metro Blue Line running from Downtown LA to Downtown Long Beach. Long Beach Transit offers 38 routes for local bus service that can take you all across the city, including the Long Beach Airport The Long Beach Passport Shuttle is a free bus service for the waterfront and downtown attractions, and two water taxis, the AquaBus and AquaLink, run during the summer months for easy access to waterfront hot spots.

Weather

As a coastal city, Long Beach is blessed with mild temperatures and plenty of sunshine. Summers are dry and sunny with occasional overcast mornings — called the marine layer — and winters are cool and partly cloudy. Daytime temperatures range from the mid-60s in winter to mid-80s in summer, while nighttime temperatures dip no lower than mid-40s in winter and mid-60s in summer. Rain falls in the winter months, and even then you're more likely to get moderate showers than heavy downpours. The hottest months have occasional high humidity that can cause discomfort for some people.

Major Employers

Anyone looking for Long Beach major employers will find that education and healthcare take the top spots. Long Beach Unified School District is the largest employer in the city with 12,500 employees. The next largest is the City of Long Beach, with 5,500 employees. Healthcare centers are also major employers. Long Beach Memorial Medical Center employs 5,000 people, while the Veterans Health Administration employs 3,000. Two other healthcare providers, Molina Healthcare and St. Mary Medical Center provide employment for 1,900 and 1,500 people, respectively. For education, Long Beach does a lot more than sharpen young minds. California State University, Long Beach, Long Beach is also a major employer for 3,900 people. Other large employers include Boeing and the  United States Postal Service.

Neighborhoods

Westside

Westside is a low-key neighborhood with commercial Santa Fe Street running through the middle. This is where you'll find everything from dance studios and barbershops to new favorite dining spots like 5000 Pies, Casa Chaskis, and Guanabana. Westside has a dense suburban feel and is home to about 12,000 residents. It's also home to  Silverado Park with its skate park and indoor pool, Admiral Kidd Park with its jogging path and recreation center, and Hudson Park with its spacious fields and 1.5-acre community garden.

Downtown

To find all of the day- or nightlife you want, you only need to get yourself to Downtown Long Beach. This bustling neighborhood houses the city's business district, along with cafes, restaurants, bars, and plenty of eclectic shops. Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center hosts everything from literary festivals to comedy shows to sports events all throughout the year. Pine Avenue has some of the best spots for food and drinks, including Agaves Ultra LoungeL'Opera ItalianGeorge's Greek Cafe, and Plant Junkie. Downtown is also home to the waterfront, The Pike Outlets and ShoreLine Aquatic Park.

East Village

East Village is an artist's paradise. It is home to quirky, eccentric, and creative folks who love to beautify the neighborhood, adding unique murals to walls, utility boxes, and sidewalks. With its many historical buildings, this neighborhood is the official Arts District of Long Beach, where galleries, avant-garde shops, and second-hand stores line the streets. You'll also find unique dining spots, often designed with an artistic touch. East Village caters to ped-friendly outings and hosts Long Beach Art Walk, A Day for the Arts, and other indie festivals.

Belmont Shore

Belmont Shore is the classic Southern California beach neighborhood with laid-back beach vibes that last day or night. Naples

Connected to Belmont Shore via the 2nd Street bridge, Naples is an affluent island neighborhood with a distinctive Venice vibe. Bixby Knolls
