The city of Renton is constantly working on their transportation system to make it faster, more accurate, and more expansive. The primary hub for bus travel throughout the city is the Renton Transit Center. When you need to get somewhere fast and far, the best option might be the Renton Municipal Airport. The city is cradled on its south and eastern border by I-405 and I-5 on the west.


Renton has the wonderfully mild Northwest weather that the region is known for. With average highs in July and August of 78 degrees and lows in December and February of 37 degrees, residents find they can take advantage of outdoor activities year-round. Rainfall is greatest in November through January but usually tops out at just under 6 inches per month. You might need an umbrella if you live in Renton, but you can certainly skip the rain boots.

Major Employers

Renton is home to some interesting employment opportunities and new residents won't be limited to healthcare options like Providence Health & Services. One of the largest employers in Renton is the game company Wizards of the Coast. They are responsible for the card game Magic the Gathering. The area's biggest employer is still Boeing, who has an airplane factory near the south end of Lake Washington.



Maplewood is a small but popular neighborhood right on the eastern edge of Renton. Lining Renton-Maple Valley Rd, the neighborhood provides easy walking access to one of the area's most popular golf courses, Maplewood Golf Course. The whole neighborhood is bisected by the Cedar River, which separates the golf course from Ron Regis Park. After a day on the links, one of the best eateries in the area is the RiverRock Grill & Ale House.

Downtown City Center

Downtown Renton is home to a wide range of businesses and museums. With Cedar River to the North and I-405 to the south, downtown is truly its own neighborhood. Some of the more popular cultural icons include the Renton History Museum which is actually located in a historic Art Deco firehouse. The Renton Library is also located nearby, and just across the river from Liberty Park where visitors can run, walk or ride along the river using the Cedar River Trail.


Kennydale is a beautiful residential neighborhood sandwiched between May Creek Park and Lake Washington. One of the best places to sit and watch the lake is Kennydale Beach Park, a great little riverfront park with a playground. Locals frequently book the Kennydale Memorial Hall for events like birthdays and family reunions.

East Renton Highlands

E. Renton Highlands is a massive residential area that includes Maplewood Heights and Maple Hills. Common local hangouts include Maplewood Park, which is actually part of the publicly-owned Maplewood Golf Course. You'll also find locals enjoying bass and trout fishing at Lake Kathleen. As the birthplace of a rock icon, one of the most popular tourist attractions in East Renton is Jimi Hendrix's gravestone and memorial in Greenwood Memorial Park cemetery.


Benson in South Renton is a great neighborhood with close proximity to Valley Medical Center. Locals who enjoy the outdoors have easy access to two great parks, Boulevard Lane Park and the Soos Creek Trail Trailhead leading into Gary Grant Soos Creek Park which actually runs 5.9 miles and connects to an unpaved 9-mile trail for what could be a massive day ride. Most of the areas shopping is done at the North Benson Center, a strip mall with 48 stores.
